Travel Safety Tips: Staying Healthy Abroad

By Insurance Team

Staying healthy while traveling reduces the risk of needing your insurance. From vaccinations to food safety, hydration, and packing a travel health kit—here's how to protect yourself on the road.

Before You Go

Visit a travel clinic or your doctor 4–6 weeks before departure. Get recommended vaccinations (e.g. hepatitis A/B, typhoid, yellow fever for certain regions). Ensure routine vaccinations are up to date. Ask about malaria prophylaxis if traveling to affected areas.

Pack a Travel Health Kit

  • Prescription medications (in original containers, with a doctor's note if needed)
  • Over-the-counter pain relief, antidiarrheal, antihistamines
  • Bandages, antiseptic, blister pads
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent
  • Rehydration sachets

Food and Water Safety

In many destinations, tap water isn't safe. Drink bottled or boiled water. Avoid ice in drinks unless you're sure of the source. Eat cooked, hot food; be cautious with raw fruits and vegetables unless you peel them yourself. Street food can be fine—choose busy stalls with high turnover.

Stay Hydrated and Rested

Dehydration and jet lag can weaken your immune system. Drink plenty of water, limit alcohol, and allow time to adjust to new time zones. Don't push yourself too hard—fatigue makes you more susceptible to illness.

Know Your Insurance

Carry your policy details and emergency assistance number. Know what's covered and how to file a claim. The daily health app lets you access documents and contact support 24/7. A little preparation goes a long way.
